The average age to have their first kid for women in cities is 31. Some women in 2021 focus on education and work. Women are waiting to find the right partner. Or to save money before they even start to think about family planning.
"That’s still 5 years from now. I’m not even married. I got a lot on my plate at work. Lab tests are expensive."
The average cost for one in vitro fertilization (IVF) cycle is $12,000.
Delaying childbirth is the "new normal." So fertility health and education are a top priority. Every woman should feel be aware of their fertility status. It doesn't have to be a guessing game. There are steps women can take to plan. When the day arrives that they decide they want to, they understand where their body is. There are no surprises.
I've talked a bit about hormone imbalances, which can impact fertility. Hide signs of PCOS, endometriosis, and Thyroid issues that later can impact fertility outcomes.
You can also test hormones during and before pregnancy to gauge your risk for a miscarriage.
Age is a factor. The rate of miscarriage after 30 increases to 20%.
We need to normalize this discussion.
6.1 million women
in the United States ages, 15–44 have difficulty becoming pregnant or staying pregnant (CDC).
There is knowledge that other women can share. Younger women can start planning. Build a picture of their fertility health. Learn and look out for similar issues. All women are connected around this issue, and we can all help each other out. Together we can prevent someone else from also going through the pain.
AMH - Measures your egg count
How many eggs left
A typical AMH level for a fertile woman is 1.0–4.0 ng/ml.
Age 25 = 5.4 ng/ml
Age 30 = 3.5 ng/ml
Age 35 = 2.3 ng/ml
Under 1.0 ng/ml is low and indicates a diminished ovarian reserve.
Women with an AMH of ≤ 0.4 had over twice the risk of miscarriage.
In this study, women with no known history of infertility and who conceived naturally. Very low AMH (≤ 0.4 ng/ml) was associated with a higher risk of miscarriage.
Women with PCOS often have elevated AMH levels (over 6.72 ng/ml).
AMH levels below 1.6 ng/mL predict a smaller number of eggs retrieved with IVF.
25% of all women who have trouble conceiving can link their infertility to problems with ovulation—one of the most common infertility causes.
Progesterone is essential for the preparation of and maintenance of pregnancy. Progesterone is often given to women on IVF.
Progesterone levels above 25 nmol/l indicate successful ovulation.
(levels higher in the range of 40–60 nmol/l may exist.)
Non-Pregnant women with low progesterone (Below 5nmol/L at day 21) can have symptoms. Headaches, migraines, mood changes, anxiety, depression, trouble sleeping, memory issues, and irregularity in their menstrual cycle.
While levels fluctuate during the month. The best way to test your progesterone levels is on day 21 of your cycle. Where progesterone should be at its highest.
If you are trying to get pregnant, please ask your doctor to test for this hormone. Pregnant women with preeclampsia have lower levels of progesterone (Amaral et al., 2014).
